Job Description – Baker

As a baker at Ou Meul, you have the responsibility of making sure that every baked product is made perfectly. The recipes we use have been carefully developed and you should feel proud of what you are producing. We are known all around South Africa for our baked goods. You must be willing to work night shifts. You must have at least 3 years experience working as a baker.

List of Responsibilities & duties, including but not limited to:

  • Ensure that all ingredients are scaled and measured according to the recipe
  • Ensure that all recipes are understood and executed as per recipe book/file and training provided
  • Ensure that oven temperatures are adjusted to ensure proper baking
  • Ensure that he/she understands the colour, texture and shape of all items baked
  • Ensure that all items prepared and/or baked is recorded in a manufacturing and/or wastage format.
  • Ensure that all prepped items are dated, labelled and stored correctly
  • Ensure that stock is rotated properly
  • Ensure that all health and safety standards are met whilst working in the bakery
  • Ensure that all equipment is cleaned and sanitized and ready for the next shift
  • Ensure that items are correctly packed and labelled for the right store/client.

As a Baker you may also be required to

  • Read and follow all recipes as intended
  • Work in hot environments
  • Endure long standing periods, walking and bending
  • Use hands and appliances and heavy equipment
  • Problem solve
  • Work independently and in a team
  • Have flexibility regarding time. i.e. work long hours, work night shift, Sundays and public holidays
  • Meet client demands when necessary
  • Do stocktake
  • General cleaning
  • Complete training as required
