Instrument Technician

Introduction

 Gears Technologies, a contractor at Bakubung Platinumj Mine is looking for an Instrument Technician. The INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of process control equipment including all (Field devices, network infrastructure and systems) within a specific area of responsibility.

Technical:

  • Good field instrumentation equipment knowledge is required and process understanding
  • Advanced computer skills including a good knowledge of Microsoft’s products Good working knowledge of PLC’s and/ or DCS
  • Ability: to read P&ID’s; Risk management skills
  • Understanding of relevant technology for improvement; Industrial network knowledge
  • Good knowledge of local area and wide area networks
  • Editing and fault-finding on Allen Bradley Control Logix Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Editing and fault-finding on selected systems (eg. Wonder Ware, Archestra, InTouch, RAMS, Scada Systems, IfiX MMI systern)
  • Good knowledge of Ethernet and field bus networks (eg DeviceNet , Profibus, Foundation Field bus and Control Net)
  • Facilitation skills and project planning; Maintaining of plant historians; Instrumentation design
  • instrumentation, process control and electrical field experience
  • Experience of Electrical LV interfacing to instrumentation will be an advantage

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • N6/ S4/ T3 Electronic light current diploma in Instrumentation or Diploma in Instrumentation and Process control;
  • Passed area specific systems training modules for role within the organization
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a manufacturing production environment;
  • At least 2 years process experience in a similar role
  • Must have a natural aptitude to work with their hands; o Excellent hand eye co-ordination;
  • Some optical theory knowledge preferred;
  • Technical Drawing/ ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings;
  • Basic Computer Literacy;
  • Trained in Product Assembly or have the ability to be trained in this aspect;
  • Trained in Optics Handling or have the ability to be trained in this aspect;
  • Cross training in different products to be done or have been done;

Be competent in the handling and functioning of electronic equipment and software or be trained in this aspect.
